Job losses in car plants

The BBC and the unions are making a big deal about how the car companies are making Western European redundancies, to transfer the metal bashing jobs East. This sucks if you loose the job, but is otherwise beneficial to everyone, as cheaper cars, better profits, more taxes etc

It is broadly true that the manufacturers are making Brits redundant ‘cos it’s easier to do so. What we must not do however, is introduce the employment “protection” legislation that they have on the continent, (along with the mass unemployment).

If it’s easy to shed jobs, it is equally easy to create them, and under current broadly Thatcherite legislation, we enjoy the best “big country” employment rates in Europe, (though not as good as the still more free market United States). Following the French or German model would protect what exists more or less and make it impossible to create anymore, thereby setting the stage for a long-term decline.

Our politicians have completely lost touch with reality

Lord Falconer, Tony Blair’s chum and minister for constitutional affairs, along with being Lord Chancellor, has decided he wants to do his job as a cabinet minister full time. So, we are to have, for the first time, a formal speaker of the House of Lords.

Remember parliament sits for about twi thirds of the year all told, they have very long Summer, Easter and Winter breaks, and the new speakers job is estimated to take maybe 3 hours per day. He won’t do much, not taking points of order, or dealing with business, or much of anything really, just sitting there, looking serene, maintaining the dignity of the house, (the same unelected house that was a disgrace 10 years ago, cos it was unelected, how is the reform programme substantially going?).

Anyway, their lordhips decided that such a post would command a salary, instead of being honourary? And the salary, £101,000 per year plus expenses ! That;s around £1,000 per hour.

Can anyone on the real world seriously imagine going to see their boss and saying, “I want to concentrate on the bit of my job I like, so would you create a new job, at £100K for the bits I don’t like?” Now if this was some wacky company, fine, let ‘em get on with it. But we are paying for this, through mandatory, prison if you don’t pay, taxes.

This on a day when it emerged, that the Somali, sought in connection with the murder of the female cop, Sharon Beschnefski in Bradford, was a convicted criminal immigrant, but he wasn’t deported back to Somalia, as it would have breached his human rights, as it was too dangerous for the poor lamb.

We have been failed, by out of touch buffoons, whose only interest is putting their own snouts in the trough ~ it’s a disgrace.
